Imagine a world of wonder, where ice cream volcanoes erupt, where giant bubbles fill the sky and where your very own masterpiece lights up the room. By bringing together engaging art and science activities, as well as evidence-based techniques and creative teaching to enhance a child’s self-esteem and mental health, the Confidence Lab is a 6-week mental health promotion group like no other. It provides a space for creativity and discovery, where kids ages 6 to 10 get to take part in fun projects every week and gain the tools to better cope with big emotions and learn to self-soothe.
In addition to this, the program is built around the key building blocks that enhance a child’s confidence and self-esteem. Kids will gain better emotional awareness, emotion regulation skills and improved confidence in themselves, while also having all the fun.

Program Outline
Week 1: Discovering your super strengths and what brings you joy
Get ready to discover what makes you unique. We all have super strengths, things that make us who we are. In today’s session, we’ll be getting to know what brings you joy and what makes you shine. You’ll learn more about some amazing animals and their unique skills, while also having a chance to make your very own paper lantern.
Week 2: Coping with anger
Today, you’ll get to be a detective who can spot anger as it begins to show up and you’ll learn lots of tricks on what help us when anger shows up. We’ll be playing the Smarties game, and you’ll also get to create your own coping menu as we talk about being a chef and finding the right ingredients to calm our nervous systems. Get ready as well for an ice cream volcano experiment that is sure to make you smile!
Week 3: Dealing with worry and sadness
This week we’ll be talking about worry and sadness, what they feel like and how we can help ourselves in our hardest moments. We’ll start by learning ways to be a good friend to yourself when you’re feeling sad, and we’ll also be exploring how worry can be like blowing up a balloon; it can get really big and overwhelming but we can also learn ways to not feed our worries and instead to tame our worries. Get ready to play with a room full of balloons this week and make your own glitter jar.
Week 4: Competence and skills
Today, we’ll be discovering the power of YET! We often think we can’t do something and might want to give up, but everything takes practice so we’ll be working on the ways we can persevere. Let’s focus on some of your biggest wins lately through a bit of “Show and tell” and discover together what your next big wins could be. We’ll also have fun doing a Fireworks in a jar science experiment and making rainbow lemon volcanos!
Week 5: Courage and Choices
In today’s session, we’ll be exploring what courage is and making “a cup full of courage”. We’ll dive into true stories from key athletes, book authors and actors on what helped them to persevere despite the fact that they heard no again and again. We’ll discover together what matters to you, exploring how to spot possibilities and make choices that get you towards the things you want. You’ll also get to make some colorful and personalized binoculars to bring home.
Week 6: Kindness and connection
Get ready for giant bubbles this week as we pop the bubbles of negative self-talk – literally! We’ll learn some easy and fun ways to help others and yourself. The session will include so many fun ideas for you to feel inspired on how you can make a difference in someone’s day and “fill someone’s bucket”, while also filling your own bucket. We’ll talk about the activities and moments that help us feel the happiest with our parents and siblings. We’ll explore ways of being on your own team, even when kids are mean, and how the messages we give ourselves can lead to incredible things. We’ll also be making seed pops for you to bring home and continue to grow with.
