I offer individual counselling for both adults and children ages 6 to 12, as well as parent coaching.

Individual Counselling for Adults

Counselling provides a safe space and opportunity to explore relationships, feelings, behavior and thoughts that worry you and cause difficulty in your life or weight you down. It also helps you to become more aware of your needs as an individual and to uncover what really matters to you. We will work together towards the goals that are most important to you, explore strategies and tools for coping and focus on actions that enrich your life.

Your first appointment will be an intake appointment where we will discuss how counselling works and begin to explore why you’re here and your goals for counselling. Following your intake appointment, we’ll set up regular sessions in a way that works for you. Both in-person and video sessions are available. Depending on your preferences, I can also provide you with follow-up exercises and resources in between appointments, to build on the skills we are exploring in our sessions.

My specialties and areas of focus include:

-Cancer (in treatment, post-treatment and at end of life) Ex: Coping with health anxiety and fear of cancer recurrence, making a plan to help yourself cope through cancer treatment, coping and living with uncertainty, etc.

-Support for caregivers to help them navigate the cancer experience or other chronic and/or terminal illnesses and to focus on their own unique needs.

-Individuals living with chronic and/or terminal illness

-Anxiety management, including health anxiety (I use evidence-based approaches to help people disentangle from the anxious thought spirals that take up so much cognitive and emotional space)

-Coping with grief and loss

-ADHD Ex: Support around executive function skills, emotion regulation, navigating challenges at home or work, etc.

-Navigating life changes and transitions Ex: Becoming a new parent, separation and divorce, career changes, moving to a new city, etc.

-Work-related stress Ex: Return to work after cancer or chronic illness, burnout recovery, attaining better work/life balance, etc.

Most private health insurance providers cover the services I provide as a Registered Social Worker. I encourage you to contact your insurance company to ask them if they cover the services of a Registered Social Worker and how much coverage they provide.

Child Counselling

Children live in a world of imagination and wonder so it only makes sense that their deepest learnings happen in a similar way. What I’ve learnt over twenty years of working with kids is when you teach something in a creative way that kids enjoy, it tends to stick better.

By using play, art, storytelling and conversation, and tapping into their sense of creativity and their personal interests, I’m always adapting to the child in front of me and finding new ways to help them open up, build better emotional awareness and teach them age-appropriate techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, to learn to better cope with difficult feelings and be kinder towards themselves.

Children feel more than they can say. When something hard is happening, like an illness in the family, a loss, or a big change, they may show it through worry, anger, withdrawal, clinginess, or changes in sleep and behavior. Counselling gives your child a safe place to make sense of what they’re feeling, with someone who understands how children process the world.

What sessions look like

Children don’t process through talking alone. Sessions are gentle and age-appropriate, using play, art, storytelling, and conversation. There’s no pressure to talk about anything before they’re ready.

Your role as a parent

You’re an important part of this process. I’ll keep you informed, within what’s appropriate to protect your child’s trust, and offer ideas for supporting them at home. If you’d like more in-depth guidance, I also offer parent coaching.

My specialties and areas of focus include:

-Low self-esteem or confidence issues as well as kids who have high self-criticism

-Anxiety and worry

-Handling feelings of sadness and anger

-Coping with a parent or loved one’s cancer diagnosis and/or chronic or terminal illness

-Navigating change and loss (divorce, moving, changing schools, etc.)

-Grief and bereavement

Parent Coaching

When a parent is facing cancer, loss, or major change, the question that weighs heaviest is often: How do I help my child through this? Parent coaching is designed to answer that. Together, we’ll build your confidence in having difficult conversations, find creative ways to support your child’s emotions at home, and strengthen the sense of safety and connection that helps children feel secure when everything else feels uncertain. You don’t need to be a therapist. You’re already the most important person in your child’s world, and I’ll help you feel equipped to show up for them.

I provide you with practical tools, language, and ideas for home, so children feel safe and connected even when life feels unpredictable.

Therapy helps a child process. Parent coaching helps you become the person your child already turns to, and gives you the tools to do it well.
